Wild Rose

  • fruit (hip) of the plant is edible.
  • hips can be eaten fresh or dried for storage.
  • only the outer shell of the rosehip is edible, discard the mass of hard, hairy seeds.
  • grows in plains, foothill, montane, and subalpine regions.
  • varieties in Ontario are Large-hip rose (Rosa rugosa), Prickly wild rose (Rosa acicularis) and Prairie rose (Rosa woodsii).
