Red Currant

berries are bright translucent red.
berries are sour but palatable.
berry is more sour than black currant berry.
plant is waist high.
varieties in the Pacific Northwest include Northern red currant (Ribes triste) and Mountain prickly currant (Ribes montigenum).
shrub grows in swamps, moist coniferous forests and rocky montane slopes.
